Evolution Update – Brunch is Back/GreenDome Rising

Greetings Detroit & all who grace us here!

I’m coming to the realization that we no longer have the time to be as verbose as I’d like to be with these newsletters. I prefer essays to bullet-points myself, but we have so much going on that I have to simply get IT out. You can always get more frills and polish at the Detroit Evolution site.

Of course, I don’t want to let our haste dismiss our gratitude. Whether your just tuning into DE or have been with us since we opened the doors of the Laboratory, we thank you for your support and attention. We are honored to be able to share our work with all of you and know that we would not be where we are today without you.

Please read this recent blog entry for more on why we do what we do.

There are a few opportunities to join us in North Corktown this weekend. We hope to see you and send along our blessings to you and yours!

In Health, Joy and Liberation,
Gregg and the whole Detroit Evolution Crew.

The Corktown Community Kitchen’s Brunch is Back!
Yes, it’s true — our summer hiatus is over and the Corktown Community Brunch is back in action! Join us for our monthly donation-based healthy local meal. This month’s menu is going to be an adventurous & tasty Indian-Mexican fusion extravaganza featuring:

Lentil Masala with Butternut Squash, Potatoes and Swiss Chard spooned over Grilled Naan and topped with Two Eggs over medium or grilled Tofu. Served with these awesome condi…ments for your palet’s enjoyment:

Sour Cream using local dairy (vegan option too), Indian-Style Pickle from Suddenly Sauer
Peach-Tomato Chutney from Delicata Sunshine
Corktown Hot Sauce

We’ll also have our usual amazing locally roasted coffee and some equally tasty hot chai to warm the soul.

As always, all are welcome. Suggested donation is between $5-15. Proceeds help us to make this a regular event and move towards opening a permanent Community Kitchen in our neighborhood! Your dollars go directly to the people growing, raising and processing the incredible food you eat at the brunch, so not only are you helping us grow, you are helping to create a healthy and just food system!

If you’d like to volunteer to help make this brunch a success, visit the Volunteer Spreadsheet to sign up for a shift:

OR if you’d like to donate kitchen items, chairs, tables, linens, etc. please call Angela at 313.815.6175. You can also email angela@detroitevolution.com. We’re grateful for all that you do!

GreenDome Rising! – Work Day Tomorrow!
Detroit Domes is ready to move forward with construction of the city’s first-ever geodesic dome greenhouse. Come out to be part of this exciting step toward a sustainable future for our city. You can learn more about this project and our mission at http://www.detroitdomes.org/

We have all kinds of work to get done before the GreenDome’s construction is completed on 9/23 and everyone is invited to help out! On Saturday we’ll mostly be working to prepare the lot: moving soil, repairing the existing chicken coop, building compost bins, etc. We’ll be moving manure as well so don’t come all fancy, bring gloves, etc.

If you can’t make it Saturday we will have plenty more volunteer opportunities — don’t hesitate to call Detroit Evolution at 313.316.1411 or email leeann@detroitevolution.org to get involved!
